Rescue dogs on the water and in the mountains

If the French firefighters released a full calendar of heroes, then there would be strong, beautiful and hardy, but not only males, but rescue dogs. They work alongside a person during events of different levels of danger. A keen sense of smell allows you to feel a traveler under a snow block after an avalanche, strong muscles - to pull a person who is drowning out of the water, as well as squeeze into narrow manholes during blockages or fires, when time passes for minutes and it is necessary, rather than sooner to locate victims and cast a vote.

Search dogs are more effective than humans during rescue operations. However, it is the person who helps to reveal their heroic potential. After all, the savior is not just a proud title, but a series of requirements that a four-legged volunteer must meet:

  • resistance to stress (the dog works in far from peaceful conditions and should focus on its task without panic and unnecessary movements)
  • lack of aggression (the benevolent character of the dog is important, because she is looking for a person who has already got into trouble and is experiencing shock and fear)
  • independence (a critical situation may require quick action, when the dog is left alone with the task, so the rescuer must know how to act)
  • discipline (for the dog, the priority should be given to the task and its implementation at any cost, so you can forget about disobedience, only clear commands).

If a person is drowning: who floats to help?

In a team near lakes, rivers, seas and oceans, next to people, a lifeguard dog on the water is responsible. Among the breeds, the strongestfour-legged are chosen, because according to international standards, the dog must help deliver the boat with passengers to the shore in case of a critical situation. Besides size and strength, animals must love water, swim fast, and get along well with strangers. Especially if such a stranger can inadvertently drive into the eye, scream or even bite. Rescue dogs watch from the shore for people who are swimming, and react to danger by giving a voice and are ready to rush to help at the first signal.

Labrador retriever

If we consider the breeds of rescue dogs, the Labrador is a very peaceful and kind animal that easily remains calm even in an unforeseen situation. Labradors often work on the water, for which they take special courses. They carry out commands, learn to rescue a drowning man and take the boat in tow. If a person is drowning, the dog swims up to him and allows him to grab his coat or strap. Labradors are in good health and physically strong, because working on reservoirs involves heavy loads.

Newfoundland

Trainers call this breed the best for water rescue operations. Newfoundland is able to pull out from an unpredictable element not one, but two people at once, or a whole boat, thanks to its strength. These dogs work well at low temperatures, because thanks to their wool they are not afraid of frost. They have a gentle character, but as rescuers they sense danger and quickly make bold and courageous decisions.

Leonberger

This breed was bred from two rescue: Newfoundland and St. Bernard. In the work of dogs, wool helps, does not get wet and allows you to stay well in the water. Phalange bridges improve sailing comfort. Patient and hardy, they are ready for long operations and do not react aggressively to harsh sounds and noises. These dogs also perform well in search operations. However, training requires persistence, because before executing a command, they will think about how to do it.

Lost in the mountains, hit by an avalanche: they are on their way!

For a dog working in the mountains, a good sense of smell and endurance is important, because in the event of an avalanche or rockfall there is no time for thought, you need to act quickly. The distance to the victims can be quite large, so the animal must develop a high speed and not get tired for a long time. The dog must be friendly and be able to warm the victim with its warmth before the arrival of other team members.

German Shepherd

The breed is a station wagon dog of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which was the first to work independently after an avalanche. They are perfectly oriented in unfamiliar places and have a good sense of smell. Sheepdogs quickly get on the trail of a person who needs help. In the mountains, the ability to work in low temperatures and under snow is prized - and German shepherds do it well. They are ready to risk their lives to save another extreme adventurer.

Saturdays

On snow-covered ice peaks, in a critical situation, a huge but very kind rescue dog in the mountains - St. Bernard, enters the battle. A breed that was specially bred to search for victims under a thick and cold layer of snow. They will sense a person at a depth of more than three meters, and thanks to keen intuition, they can even sense the future of an avalanche.

Belgian shepherd

Large and powerful-looking Belgians have a good character towards humans. Their thick coat allows them to work in the worst weather conditions, for example, as a lifeguard dog in the Alps. Shepherd dogs next to people participate not only in dangerous operations, but also serve in protection or hunting. However, this breed gets along worse than others with other animals.
